USA Unveils Final 23-Player Squad for World Cup Title Defense

Chicago, June 21, 2023

With just one month to go until the start of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, the United States Women's National Team (USWNT) has unveiled its final 23-player roster. The team, led by coach Vlatko Andonovski, will begin its World Cup journey on July 21.

The roster features a mix of experienced veterans and rising stars, including three-time FIFA Women's Player of the Year Megan Rapinoe, two-time Olympic gold medalist Alex Morgan, and veteran defender Kelley O'Hara. All three players will be making their fourth World Cup appearance.

Notable additions to the roster include young midfielders Mallory Pugh and Sophia Smith, who have impressed in recent competitions. Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, who was named the FIFA Women's Best Goalkeeper in 2019, will lead the defense.

The USWNT will face the Netherlands, Vietnam, and Portugal in Group E of the World Cup. The team is aiming to defend its title, having won the tournament in 1991, 1999, 2015, and 2019.
