Colorado Avalanche vs Washington Capitals Game Recap

Avalanche Rout Capitals 6-3 for First Win in Five Games

Nathan MacKinnon's Four Goals Lead Colorado to Victory

Denver, CO - The Colorado Avalanche snapped their four-game losing streak in emphatic fashion on Tuesday night, defeating the Washington Capitals 6-3 at Ball Arena.

Nathan MacKinnon led the way for Colorado with a dominant four-goal performance, including two in the third period to put the game out of reach. Mikko Rantanen added a goal and two assists, while Valeri Nichushkin also scored for the Avalanche.

The Capitals got on the board first when Anthony Mantha scored just 3:30 into the game. However, the Avalanche responded with three straight goals in the second period to take the lead.

The Capitals cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal from Alex Ovechkin early in the third period, but MacKinnon's second goal of the night restored Colorado's two-goal advantage.

Washington closed the gap again when Nic Dowd scored with just over four minutes remaining, but MacKinnon completed his hat trick with just under two minutes left to put the game away.

The win was a much-needed one for the Avalanche, who had lost their previous four games in regulation. It also marked the first time this season that they had scored more than four goals in a game.

The Capitals, meanwhile, dropped their second straight game and are now 2-2-1 in their last five.
